The name Out Of Enemies sounded very familiar to me when I first opened the envelope to find their debut album ‘Out Of Enemies’ and after starting to read the accompanying press sheet I realised that this band are from Honiton roughly thirty miles away from where I live and they always say some of the best things are on your doorstep and this is definitely true about Out Of Enemies. Pulling no punches from the off vocalist Ryan Shirley’s vocals growl welcomes you to the record like a Ricky Hatton left hook as the guitars and drums come crashing into your ear drums.

With a sound familiar to that of In Flames and Caliban, Out Of Enemies might not be doing something new but they do it so well and the stand out track for me ‘Confide In This’ shows the bands ability first starting off with only guitar before the drums come in to really get your head nodding with the whole thing wrapped up with gut wrenching vocals only for seconds later to turn into a track that truly showcases Ryan’s vocal ability.

Out Of Enemies really do have the world at their feet and with a debut album like ‘Into The Darkness’ they are taking one giant step up the mountain to the top. This is a band to watch in 2009, I for one am lucky enough to live near where the band is from so will be going to check them out as much as possible on their upcoming tour dates.
